Safaricom Appoints New CEO, Peter Ndegwa Takes the Helm

Published on October 24, 2019, Safaricom has appointed Peter Ndegwa as its new Chief Executive Officer, replacing the late Bob Collymore.

Ndegwa joins Safaricom from Diageo PLC, a multinational company based in Amsterdam, Netherlands, where he was the Managing Director of Diageo Continental Europe.

With a strong background in finance, Ndegwa holds an MBA from the London Business School and a Bachelor's degree from the University of Nairobi.

Before joining Diageo, Ndegwa worked at PwC as a sales manager from 2006 to 2008. He also served as the Managing Director of East African Breweries Limited (EABL) from 2004 to 2011, and later as the Managing Director of Guinness Ghana Breweries from 2011 to 2015, where his achievements were notable.

Ndegwa's appointment is set to take effect on April 1, 2020.
