Safaricom Names Peter Ndegwa as New CEO

On October 24, 2019, Safaricom announced the appointment of Peter Ndegwa as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective April 1, 2020.

Ndegwa brings over 25 years of experience in General Management, Commercial and Business Strategy, Sales and Finance Operations from various roles in the Financial Services and Fast-Moving Consumer Goods sectors in Africa and Europe.

He joins Safaricom from Diageo PLC, where he is the Managing Director of Diageo Continental Europe, overseeing operations in 50 countries in Western and Eastern Europe, Russia, the Middle East, and North Africa.

Before his current role, Ndegwa served as CEO of Guinness Nigeria PLC and Guinness Ghana Breweries PLC for seven years, transforming the operations to deliver double-digit growth through investments in people, new brands, and business reorganization.

According to a press statement, Ndegwa's appointment was resolved by the Safaricom PLC Board of Directors, citing his wealth of experience and leadership skills.

“The Safaricom PLC Board of Directors has today resolved to appoint Peter Ndegwa as the company’s Chief Executive Officer effective April 1, 2020.”
