On October 24, 2019, Uber Technologies Inc. announced a partnership with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to launch public transport services in India.
The new service allows users to see the fastest and cheapest routes, view real-time schedules, and enter and exit metro stations using the Uber app. This feature has been integrated with the app, similar to other services such as UberEats.
Speaking at the launch, product chief Manik Gupta said, 'Uber for Public Transport has been integrated with the app, like its other services such as UberEats.'
Uber also showcased a 'model Metro station' at the launch event, which includes dedicated pick-up and drop-off areas, along with services such as UberGo, Pool, Moto, and Auto as well as Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAV) and Uber Bus.
DMRC Managing Director Dr Mangu Singh added that the partnership would enable first and last-mile connectivity, stating, 'Uber will have pick up points at Delhi Metro. Space will be provided for kiosks across 210 metro stations.'
The Public Transport feature by Uber Technologies is already live in eight cities worldwide, including Denver, Boston, Chicago, Washington DC, San Francisco, London, Paris, and Sydney.
