On October 20, 2019, seven-year-old Akif Malik was reported missing after being seen talking to two strangers in Kenya Re estate, Kisumu.

According to eyewitnesses, the men had been camping in the estate a week before the boy went missing.

Following a tip-off from members of the public, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) found Akif Malik safe and sound in Nyandiwa, Suba South constituency, Homa Bay county on October 23, 2019.

Officers from Magunga Police Station arrested a suspect who was found with the boy and detained them at the station.

The suspect was later to be transferred to Kisumu where the case was reported.

According to Homa Bay county DCI commander Daniel Wachira, the minor was found following a tip-off from members of the public, as reported by Citizen TV.

Wachira said some members of the public became suspicious when they saw the minor with the suspect.

"Our officers from Magunga Police Station received a report about the activities of the suspects,” Wachira said.
