On October 24, 2019, Japanese conglomerate Toyota Tsusho announced its plans to expand its agricultural activities in the region by promoting its Kenya-made fertiliser.

The firm, which has a blending facility in Eldoret, aims to utilise its established car sales network to promote the Baraka brand of fertiliser.

According to Toyota Tsusho's 2019 integrated report, the firm will use its automobile sales network to promote sales, with possibilities for sales and exports to neighbouring countries.

Toyota Tsusho Fertiliser Africa Limited, the processing subsidiary of the conglomerate, started blending activities in 2016, becoming the second firm after Mea Limited to set up such a facility in Kenya.

The firm predicts that annual demand for fertiliser in Kenya will increase from 600,000 tonnes to 1.5 million tonnes and is working to ensure the needs of farmers are met.
