Manchester United are facing a striking crisis following the departure of Romelu Lukaku, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer desperate to add depth to his attacking department in January.

According to reports, the Red Devils are closing in on a £10million transfer deal for Mario Mandzukic, who has fallen out of favour at Juventus.

Despite initial salary demands that scuppered a summer move, Mandzukic has agreed to slash his £300,000-a-week wage demands by half, paving the way for a potential switch to Old Trafford.

The 33-year-old was on Solskjaer's radar during the summer but his salary demands saw a possible switch to Old Trafford collapse.

However, with youngsters struggling to fill the void left by Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez, Solskjaer is now willing to compromise to land an experienced striker during the January window.

As reported by BBC Sport, Solskjaer's men have struggled in front of goal, with Marcus Rashford often leading the line but struggling to shoulder the responsibility following Anthony Martial's injury.

With Mandzukic now prepared to relax his demands, a deal could be imminent, as an Old Trafford source told Deadline Day Live: "His reps have been in contact and are willing to change their demands. There will be other bonuses factored into the deal. It looks like one that could get done now."
