On October 23, 2019, a group of residents in Kiambu County launched a campaign to remove Governor Ferdinand Waititu from office, citing his absence from work and the impact on essential services.

The campaign, dubbed 'Okoa Kiambu,' aims to collect signatures from 200,000 residents to impeach the governor. As of October 23, 2019, the group had already collected over 50,000 signatures.

According to Hoswell Kinuthia, the coordinator of the campaign, the group's actions were prompted by a court order that barred Governor Waititu from accessing his office.

"The situation is not good. Hospitals are without medicine, and essential services are being affected," Kinuthia said.

The group is targeting 200,000 residents and has already collected over 50,000 signatures. "We have collected 50,000 signatures, and we hope that our petition will be passed by the county assembly. We urge members of the county assembly to support us for the benefit of the residents," Kinuthia said.

Governor Waititu was barred from accessing his office on July 30, 2019, after being charged with multiple counts of corruption, including embezzling over KSh 588 million.
