On October 23, 2019, a disturbing banner was displayed in the away end before Liverpool's Champions League clash with Genk in Belgium. The banner, which was swiftly removed, depicted Divock Origi's head photoshopped onto a naked body alongside the Champions League trophy.
Liverpool Football Club condemned the offensive banner, stating that it perpetuated a racist stereotype. The club's statement emphasized that the image used was completely unacceptable and that they were working with local authorities and the stadium team to identify those responsible.
Manager Jurgen Klopp was asked for his reaction after the game, but he chose not to comment, citing the club's earlier statement. Despite the controversy, Liverpool went on to win the game 4-1, with Origi coming on as a second-half substitute and receiving a warm welcome from the home supporters.
