On October 24, 2019, a devastating fire ravaged a cafe along Thika Road next to the United States International University, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
The blaze, which started at around 9:30 PM, broke out at Salmarino cafe just 20 minutes after it had been closed for the night.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire may have been caused by an electric potato deep fryer left on by one of the staff members.
Collins Mwaura, a student at USIU who had dined at the cafe just hours before the fire, expressed shock at how quickly the flames spread.
