On October 23, 2019, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was the guest on Point Blank, a show hosted by Tony Gachoka on KTN News. However, the live screening of the show raised eyebrows as Gachoka appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.
During the live stream, Sonko was addressing sensitive issues related to land grabbing and his efforts to recover land for its original owners. However, Gachoka seemed disengaged and struggled to articulate himself, prompting Sonko to question whether they were on the same wavelength.
‘I don’t know if you are actually getting what I am saying to you. It seems as if I have already thrown you off the radar,’ Sonko said, trying to get Gachoka back on track.
When the show aired on KTN News, Sonko pleaded with Gachoka to give him more time to explain himself, stating that the matters he was addressing were serious and sensitive.
However, many Kenyans took to social media to express their outrage and disappointment at Gachoka’s behavior, with some calling for his contract to be terminated.
‘This guy looks so drunk. This is a disgust to the journalist fraternity and KTN news. His contract should be terminated with immediate effect,’ one user posted.
Others found humor in the situation, with one user joking, ‘Is it that am not sober or this KTN News got a new show?’
