Kenyan Teacher Wins KSh 1 Million for Outstanding Work

On October 24, 2019, Erick Ademba, a teacher at Asumbi Girls High School, was awarded KSh 1 million by the African Union for his outstanding work in education.

Ademba was among three teachers from Kenya, Uganda, and Ghana who were recognized for their efforts in helping their students achieve their dreams and for their innovative teaching methods.

According to the African Union, the award aims to motivate teachers across the continent to be more innovative and to improve education.

Ademba expressed his gratitude for the award, saying it would be a motivation for teachers across Africa to be more innovative and to improve education.

“This award will change the face of teaching because African teachers will feel recognized,” Ademba said.

Beatrice Njenga, the Director of Education at the African Union, said that recognizing teachers is a key way to achieve the Agenda 2063 and the Education in Africa Plan.

“It will boost the creativity of African teachers in various institutions, from primary to tertiary education, including TVET, and encourage the teaching profession as a desirable career choice,” Njenga said.
