On October 24, 2019, Lwam Bekelle found herself in a heated court battle with her mother-in-law Ida Odinga and daughter Winnie.

The dispute began when Ida and Winnie accused Bekelle of abandoning her matrimonial home in Karen soon after Fidel's funeral and cutting all contact with the family.

They also alleged that Bekelle kept off as the Odinga family pushed to get to the bottom of what could have killed Fidel.

Ida and Winnie further claimed that Fidel had twins – a girl and a boy – with another woman, Phoebe Akinyi Ogweno, who are legally his dependents.

Ida stated, 'The petitioner has deliberately failed to include and provide or otherwise show the intention of providing for the said minors hence a red flag on her intentions.'

Bekelle, through her lawyers, denied the allegations, terming them a concoction of facts given that the said twins were born six months after Fidel's death.

The case is ongoing.
