On Mashujaa Day, Kiambu governor Ferdinand Baba Yao Waititu found himself at the center of a controversy after a video emerged of him being escorted out of the VIP podium during celebrations in Mombasa. The incident occurred on October 20, 2019.
According to Waititu, the confusion arose because he did not have an invitation card for the event, leading him to believe that he could attend without one. He claimed that upon realizing no seat had been reserved for him, he decided to leave.
Waititu's explanation came after a video of the incident went viral on social media, with many speculating that he was being avoided by President Uhuru Kenyatta due to corruption charges he is facing in court. However, Waititu dismissed these claims, stating that he was not a native of Mombasa and that the heat was too much for him.
Waititu's temporary ouster from office is due to graft charges, which have been a subject of public scrutiny. The incident has sparked further debate about his suitability for public office.
