On October 23, 2019, the Employment and Labour Relations Court temporarily suspended the appointment of Mary Wambui as Chairperson of the National Employment Authority, following a petition filed by the Kenya Young Parliamentarians Association.
Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja, the association's chairman, argued that Wambui does not meet the threshold of having at least seven years' experience in human resource management or its equivalent, as required by Section 10 (2) of the National Employment Authority Act.
According to the petitioners, Wambui's qualifications are mandatory and not discretionary, and she has personally admitted to having a limited education, making her unsuitable for the position.
Justice Hellen Wasilwa certified the matter as urgent and set the hearing for November 14, 2019.
