On October 23, 2019, the 14-member task force on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) announced the completion of their report, which proposes a significant shift in Kenya's government system.
The BBI report recommends the introduction of a parliamentary system with a powerful Prime Minister and two deputies, replacing the current system where the winner leads the country.
According to the report, the Prime Minister will be elected by Parliament from the party that wins majority seats, shifting the battle for executive power to Parliament.
The report also proposes that the president, deputy president, the prime minister, and the two deputies should be shared out by at least five different tribes to address historical injustices and promote national unity.
The BBI team's report is set to be submitted to President Uhuru Kenyatta and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) chief Raila Odinga next week for review and possible implementation.
