Liverpool Ends Champions League Away Drought with Thrashing of Genk

On Wednesday, October 23, Liverpool's lethal forwards were doing the business once again as the Reds ran out comfortable winners over Belgian side Genk in a Champions League Group E match.

The encounter saw Liverpool make five changes to their squad that battled Manchester United to a 1-1 draw over the weekend, with the likes of James Milner, Dejan Lovren, Naby Keita, Mohamed Salah, and Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain returning to the starting XI.

Chamberlain, who only recently returned from a lengthy spell on the sidelines, opened the scoring with a low shot as early as the second minute. Mo Salah was also on top of his game for the Reds for most part of the first 45 minutes and came close to doubling their lead in the 25th minute.

After the restart, Liverpool continued pressing hard and after 10 minutes, Roberto Firmino set up Chamberlain to finish off an excellent strike with the outside of his boot. Sadio Mane was also on the score sheet as he dinked one into the net from a Mo Salah through ball.

Former NPFL star Stephen Odey netted one for the hosts but it proved to be nothing but a consolation as they were thoroughly outclassed by Jurgen Klopp's men. The result sees the European champions remain second in Group E log with 6 points, 1 point adrift of Napoli, who defeated Salzburg 3-2 away from home in the group other game on Wednesday night.

It was a decent way for Liverpool to bounce back, especially after losing their perfect record in the Premier League after the unexpected draw against an out-of-sorts Manchester United on Sunday.
