Barcelona made significant strides towards qualifying for the UEFA Champions League knockout stages with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Czech champions Slavia Prague on October 23, 2019.
Lionel Messi broke a new record by scoring in the Champions League for the 15th consecutive season, making him the first player to achieve this feat.
The Argentine star opened the scoring in the third minute with a neat first-time finish after a nice exchange of passes with Arthur.
Despite the early setback, Slavia Prague showed a lot of intent and deservedly got their equalizer five minutes into the second half after Jan Boril poked home the ball from a team mate’s pass.
However, Barcelona were once again back in the lead seven minutes later after a Lionel Messi freekick found team mate Luis Suarez, whose shot went in off Slavia Prague’s Peter Olayinka for an own goal.
The away side managed to contain their opponents for the rest of the match to secure their second win of the group stage and stay at the summit of Group F on seven points.
Antonio Conte’s Inter Millan met with Borussia Dortmund in the other Group F game at the San Siro, where the home side emerged with a comprehensive 2-0 win.
