On October 20, 2019, a seven-year-old boy named Akif Malik was kidnapped from his parents' home in Kisumu's Kenya Re estate. The boy was lured by a middle-aged man in a small red car that had been frequenting the estate over the past week.

According to eyewitnesses, the kidnappers might have marked their target earlier while frequenting the estate. In the pretext of friendly strangers, the suspects in the red car later kidnapped the seven-year-old.

After a thorough investigation by the Homa Bay Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), led by boss Daniel Wachira, Akif Malik was found alive in Nyandiwa area in the interior of Homa Bay County on Wednesday evening.

A woman who was found with the boy has been arrested and is detained at Magunga Police Station in Homa Bay. The parents have positively identified the boy.
