Rayvanny and Phyno Team Up for 'Slow' ¶
Published on October 23, 2019, Rayvanny has released a new jam titled 'Slow', a feel-good love song that showcases the Tanzanian artist's ability to blend Swahili language with international appeal.
The song features Phyno, one of Nigeria's biggest rappers, and is a praise to the African woman. Rayvanny incorporates the Swahili language in the song, which may seem like an urge to reach every audience in the continent, but he is keen to keep his roots intact.
Phyno brings out the musicality in the song with his baritone voice, and the blend of Afro-fusion in the video is what sells the song most. The use of vixens dancing in ankara and the photo studio set up were beautifully done.
Rayvanny starts off the song with a description of why he loves his woman, saying, “You got the power in the beauty Quality, unarembua au makengeza Vicheche namba nishadelete Kibinti, fujo mi sikuziweza…’
He won't let go of her no matter what, and the use of metaphors in the Swahili lyrics is another beauty in Rayvanny's music. As the song goes on, he keeps telling the girl about his love and how he loves it when she dances and whines her waist.
Phyno inputs his voice later in the song, with pidgin that we couldn't translate but worked for the song. The song was done by Wasafi man Lizer Classic and S2Kizzy, and the visuals were done by Mr. C.
However, for as much as Rayvanny is still on the hunt for audience in the West, this jam was way below his standards. He does much better even on rap, according to the reviewer.
