Former Deputy Controller of Government Accounts Acquitted for Ksh 10M

On October 22, 2019, Stephen Kinuthia, the former Deputy Controller of Government Accounts, appeared before Chief Justice Douglas Ogoti, where he denied allegations of embezzling over Ksh 1 million from the government.

According to reports, Kinuthia was accused of inflating the cost of a computer program contrary to the required standards, resulting in a loss of millions of shillings to the government.

On October 23, 2019, Chief Justice Douglas Ogoti acquitted Kinuthia and ordered him to present his passport to the court.

Kinuthia's sons, Desmond and Nelson, were also acquitted and ordered to pay a fine of Ksh 5 million and Ksh 3 million respectively.

It is reported that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Haji, had previously recommended that the officials be taken to court for their alleged involvement in the embezzlement scandal.
