Italian football club AS Roma is expanding its reach in East Africa, with plans to create a Sheng Twitter account. The move comes just days after the club unveiled a Swahili Twitter handle in response to a request from Kenyan fans.
On October 22, 2019, the club revealed that discussions over the Sheng Twitter account were in advanced stages, with fans being sought for their opinion on the idea.
"Tumefurahi kumkaribisha @musembipm kutoka @BBCAfrica kuzungumzia #ASRoma @missingchild_ke pamoja na @ASRomaSwahili (Yaani sisi). Pia tumejadili kuzindua ukurasa wa AS Roma kwa Lugha ya Sheng. Mko tayari kuupokea?"
Translated, this means: "We are delighted to welcome @musembipm from @BBCAfrica talking about #AS Roma, @missingchild_ke and @ASRomaSwahili. We have also discussed launching the AS Roma page in the Sheng Language. Ready for it?"
While some fans are excited about the prospect of a Sheng Twitter account, others have expressed concerns that Sheng is not a widely recognized language.
