On September 14 and 16, 2019, a dealer in Molo, Nakuru County, was duped by two con artists who posed as Catholic nuns, resulting in a loss of electronics worth 1 million.

The two women, who claimed to be customers of the dealer, ordered a bulk purchase of electronics, stating that their priest from St. Mary's Seminary had been impressed by the quality of the products.

They allegedly wrote two cheques, one for Ksh. 807,000 and another for Ksh. 391,000, which the dealer later discovered were fake.

After being informed that the cheques were counterfeit, the dealer visited St. Mary's Seminary, where he was told that the two women were not recognized or known at the institution.

The dealer, Mr. Joseph Wainaina, has appealed to the DCI to help him track down the two con artists, who he claims have been operating in the area and have been arrested on one occasion but released under unclear circumstances.

According to Wainaina, the women showered him with praise for having an eye for quality, before making off with the electronics.

”They told me their priest was impressed with the products that they bought and they wanted more because they are carrying out a project to install the TVs in one of their halls,’’ Wainaina narrated.
