On October 18, 2019, Kenya's National Women's Netball team traveled to South Africa to participate in the Africa Cup Championship.
However, their trip turned out to be a nightmare as they were allegedly abandoned by the government, leaving them stranded and hungry.
According to a tweet by renowned football journalist Carol Radull, the team was left without any financial support, forcing them to play several games on empty stomachs.
Radull shared a screenshot of a message sent to her by one of the team members, which revealed that the government had not paid for their hotel stay, forcing them to be denied entry.
The team was eventually forced to shower at a gym and play their first game without any food, leading to a series of losses in the tournament.
Radull's tweet sparked outrage among Kenyans, who took to social media to condemn the Sports Ministry for their alleged negligence.
One Twitter user, @stephentimothy5, wrote, 'This is a serious case of misplaced priorities. The government should be ashamed of themselves.'
Another user, @DennisMurega, added, 'This is a sad day for Kenya. Our athletes deserve better.'
The incident has left many questioning the government's priorities and their treatment of athletes.
