Published on October 23, 2019, two masons have found themselves in a precarious situation after buying a mobile phone from a woman suspected of carjacking.
Edward Kamau Muchiri and Stephen Mwange Mutemi, the two accused persons, were charged with stealing a Sh 3 million Isuzu DMax car.
The car was stolen from Evelyn Mbithe Kisalu on January 3, and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations failed to trace the woman or recover the vehicle.
As a result, the two masons were held responsible for explaining how they came into possession of the woman's phone, which was traced to Mutemi on October 11.
According to the prosecution, the woman had administered unknown stupefying drugs to the car's driver, Gabriel Mutie, before taking off with the car.
When questioned, Muchiri claimed he bought the phone from the woman at Sh 2,500 because he had sold his to offset some loans.
Both suspects denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Angelo Kithinji and were freed on bond pending hearing of the case starting February 27, 2020.
