On October 23, 2019, the Employment Court in Nairobi issued an order blocking Mary Wambui's appointment as chairperson of the National Employment Authority.
The court's decision came in response to a case filed by the Kenya Young Parliamentarians Association, led by Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja.
The association argued that Wambui does not meet the mandatory qualifications for the position, as outlined in Section 10 (2)(c) of the National Employment Authority Act, which requires at least seven years' experience in human resource management or its equivalent.
Wambui's limited education, she has previously admitted, makes her unsuitable for the role, the petitioners claimed.
The court certified the case as urgent and set a hearing for November 14, 2019.
