On October 23, 2019, Dr. Patrick Njoroge, Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya, was recognized as the Central Bank Governor of the Year for Sub-Saharan Africa by Global Markets magazine.
This is the second time Dr. Njoroge has received this prestigious award in four years, following his first win in 2016.
According to Global Markets, Dr. Njoroge has overseen a period of consolidation in the Kenyan banking sector, resulting in improved oversight and a reduction in illicit financial flows.
Under his leadership, the Central Bank of Kenya has implemented measures to tighten lending standards and promote innovation and green finance.
Dr. Njoroge dedicated his award to the youth of Africa, acknowledging the important role they play in shaping the continent's economic future.
