Published on October 23, 2019, the Liberal Party's victory in the Canada election has significant implications for the country's immigration policies.

Despite winning with a minority in parliament, the Liberals can still proceed with their agenda to increase the immigrant population, with reports indicating that the target will increase from 330,800 in 2019 to 350,000 by 2021.

According to CIC news, the Liberals will only need the support of one of the other three political parties who already have somewhat similar views on the subject to implement their agenda.

The Liberal government plans to launch the Municipalities Nominee Program (MNP) to increase the number of people going to smaller cities and towns, addressing the challenge of immigrants largely settling in larger cities.

As part of their plans, the government will also waive fees for those planning to apply for citizenship and increase the allocation for the application process to $110 million in the 2023-2024 year.

The government's allocation for the settlement of new immigrants will also increase to $1.5 billion in the 2023-2024 year.
