The Department of Justice has launched a campaign to boost Kenya's manufacturing sector by encouraging staff to wear 'Made in Kenya' attire on Fridays.

According to a circular dated October 17, Solicitor General Kennedy Ogeto directed staff to wear decent, smart casual Kenyan-produced and tailored attire on Fridays, starting from October 18, 2019.

The move is aimed at supporting Jubilee's manufacturing pillar of the Big Four agenda and creating employment, as stated in the circular.

President Uhuru Kenyatta had previously urged public servants to wear 'Made in Kenya' garments to boost the local textile industry, citing the importance of creating demand for local products.

The Public Service Commission's human resource manual requires public officers to be 'well-groomed and decently dressed' to maintain an appropriate standard of dress and personal hygiene.

October 17, 2019, marked the date of the circular issued by Solicitor General Kennedy Ogeto.
