On October 23, 2019, a man accused of insulting Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok on Facebook was released on Ksh. 30,000 cash bail.

Dominic Kiplangat, 35, had been arrested on Tuesday night after Governor Barchok complained about posts made on Facebook between September 22, 2019, and October 14, 2019.

According to the charge sheet, Kiplangat published obscene information in electronic form, which aimed to defame a public officer.

He is accused of violating Section 84D of the Kenya Communications Act, which states that a person who sends a message or other matter that is grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene, or menacing character commits an offense.

The case will be mentioned on October 31.
