Published on October 23, 2019, actor Lenana Kariba recounts a shocking encounter with a con artist who nearly swindled him out of his phone.
According to Kariba, the scammer posed as a well-dressed businessman who befriended him in a town, ordering drinks and sharing a fabricated story about his family and business ventures.
The man then took photos of Kariba's phone and pretended not to have the money to pay for it, asking Kariba to accompany him to his restaurant to retrieve the cash.
However, upon arriving at the bar, the scammer vanished, leaving Kariba waiting for 15 to 20 minutes before realizing he had been duped.
‘He told me a story about his family and that he runs a bar and restaurant in town. He took a look at my phone and took photos,’ Kariba recalled.
‘We got to the bar, ordered another drink. We spoke a bit more. He was talking to the people like he knew them, it was like it was rehearsed. He went to the back and it was like an exit, and he was gone,’ Kariba said.
Fortunately, Kariba was able to escape the situation unscathed, but the experience left him shaken.
Today, Kariba is focusing on his acting career, starring as ‘Reagan’ in the drama series ‘Selina’.
