Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka's decision to skip the burial of former MCA Ann Wairimu in Matungulu has left many in Machakos reeling. According to sources, Wairimu was a life member of the party, and her burial was attended by several high-profile leaders, including former Machakos senator Johnson Muthama.

Former Machakos deputy governor Bernard Kiala expressed his disappointment at the party's lack of representation, stating that Wairimu's contributions to the party should not be forgotten. 'Wiper party did not send any condolence message or contribution yet she was a member,' Kiala lamented.

Matungulu MP Stephen Mule echoed Kiala's sentiments, suggesting that the party's absence was a reflection of its priorities. 'Wiper party should not be expected to undertake development projects when the national and county governments are there for that,' Mule said.

However, it has emerged that Kalonzo was in Mozambique at the time of the burial, serving as a special envoy to oversee presidential polls. His decision not to send Muthama to represent the party has exposed the bad blood between the two heavyweights in local politics.

The controversy comes as the Machakos gubernatorial race heats up, with several leaders eyeing the top spot. Former Machakos speaker Bernard Mung'ata eulogized the two deceased MCAs, describing them as hardworking and dedicated leaders who did their best during their time in service.

With Governor Alfred Mutua's term ending, secret meetings to succeed him are underway. Analysts predict that the 2022 Machakos gubernatorial race will be one of the most interesting political contests in the country.
