It's been a month since the Precious Talent Primary School collapsed, leaving a trail of destruction and heartbreak in its wake. For Alex Mutwiri, a class six student, the road to recovery has been long and arduous.
According to his father, Joel Njagi, Alex sustained spinal injuries in the collapse and has been undergoing treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital. However, due to the lack of adult beds at the National Spinal Injury referral hospital, the family was forced to seek alternative care at AIC Kijabe.
‘The pain my son has been going through at home is unbearable, so we decided to take him to AIC Kijabe,' Njagi explained. 'This is because National Spinal Injury referral hospital only has adult beds.'
Despite the challenges they've faced, the family remains hopeful that Alex will make a full recovery. However, the road ahead is uncertain, and the family is struggling to cope with the financial burden of his treatment.
‘Life has been hard because I haven’t been going to work neither is my wife who is a salonist yet we keep using money every day,' Njagi said. 'The medical help funds had been paid directly to Kenyatta Hospital.'
As the family navigates this difficult time, they are grateful for the support they've received from some Nairobi leaders. However, they are still facing significant challenges in their quest for Alex's recovery.
