Published on October 23, 2019, Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has denied claims that he was kicked out of the VIP podium at Mashujaa Day celebrations in Mombasa on Sunday.

According to Waititu, he arrived at the event at Mama Ngina Drive without an invitation card, which led to a 'small' confusion.

Waititu told The Standard that he thought the event was open to the public and that he could show up uninvited. However, he soon realized that no seat had been reserved for him and decided to leave.

Waititu denied reports that President Uhuru Kenyatta was avoiding him due to corruption cases he is facing before court. He maintained that there is no bad blood between him and the President.

Video footage seen by The Standard shows some of the event's organisers approaching Waititu, engaging him in a brief chat, and then him receiving a call on his phone. Immediately after, Waititu stood up, walked out of the dais, and chatted with several security officials as he walked out of the venue.
