On a recent royal tour of Southern Africa, Meghan Markle opened up about the challenges she has faced since becoming a royal in a documentary dubbed Harry & Meghan: An African Journey.

According to Meghan, her friends were initially supportive when she informed them that she and Prince Harry were dating, but her British friends cautioned her against the relationship, warning that the British tabloids would 'destroy your life.'

At the time, Meghan didn't fully understand the gravity of her friends' warning until she and Prince Harry were married in May 2018.

True to form, the tabloids have published numerous stories about Meghan and her family with little regard for their privacy or the impact on their lives.

Most recently, a private letter sent to Meghan by her estranged father was published by the Mail on Sunday, prompting Meghan to take action and sue the publication.

Prince Harry also spoke out against the media coverage, calling it 'ruthless' and stating that what started as mild coverage had escalated since they got married.

Despite the challenges she has faced, Meghan remains determined not to let the negativity get to her, saying, 'I think I really tried to adopt this British sensibility of a stiff upper lip.'

However, she also acknowledged that the constant barrage of false and malicious stories has taken a toll on her mental health, saying, 'When people are trying to say things that are just untrue, and they're told they're untrue but they're still allowed to say them, I don't know anybody in the world that would feel like that's okay.'

Despite the challenges, Meghan remains optimistic, saying, 'The good thing is I've got my baby and I've got my husband and they're the best.'
