On October 17th, the government issued a directive for all civil servants to wear Kenyan-made clothes on Fridays and during public holidays.

The move is part of President Kenyatta's 'Buy Kenya, Build Kenya' initiative, which aims to promote manufacturing as one of the big four agenda.

According to a circular signed by Solicitor-General Ken Ogeto, the directive is intended to spur the growth of the local manufacturing industry.

On October 18th, the directive took effect, with all heads of departments and regional heads expected to lead by example.

President Kenyatta and other top government officials set the tone by wearing locally made outfits during Mashujaa Day celebrations in Mombasa last Sunday.

The attires were manufactured at Bedi Investment Limited, a Nakuru-based textile company.

When asked about the authenticity of the circular, Solicitor-General Ken Ogeto confirmed that it was genuine and issued in line with government policy.
