Kenyan civil servants are now required to wear locally made clothes on Fridays and public holidays, as part of the government's 'Buy Kenya, Build Kenya' initiative.
On October 17th, Solicitor-General Ken Ogeto issued a circular directing all heads of departments and regional heads to implement this policy, which aims to promote local manufacturing and create employment.
According to the circular, all staff members are expected to wear 'decent, smart casual Kenyan produced and tailored attire' on Fridays.
President Kenyatta and other top government officials set an example by wearing locally made outfits during Mashujaa Day celebrations in Mombasa last Sunday.
The locally made attires were manufactured at Bedi Investment Limited, a Nakuru-based textile company.
When asked about the authenticity of the circular, Solicitor-General Ken Ogeto confirmed that it was genuine and part of the government's efforts to spur the growth of the local manufacturing industry.
