Plant-based burgers have become increasingly popular, with many brands claiming to offer a more sustainable and healthier alternative to traditional meat-based burgers. But do they live up to the hype?

In this review, we'll be putting two popular plant-based burgers to the test: FieldBurger from Field Roast in Seattle and Sweet Earth Fresh Veggie Burger from Sweet Earth Foods in Moss Landing, California.

FieldBurger, with its slogan 'Plant-Based Artisanal Meats,' boasts a unique blend of ingredients, including onions, celery, and three different forms of mushroom. The patty itself is made from vital wheat gluten, filtered water, and a range of other plant-based ingredients. At around $6 for four 3.25-ounce patties, it's a bit pricier than some of its competitors.

When it comes to taste, FieldBurger is a mixed bag. While some tasters praised its 'vegetal' notes and crisp crust, others found the bready interior to be a letdown. As one taster noted, 'Maybe this burger would do better without a bun?'

On the other hand, Sweet Earth Fresh Veggie Burger, with its slogan 'Exotic by Nature, Conscious by Choice,' offers a more exotic flavor profile. Made with a range of plant-based ingredients, including barley, garlic, and shiitake mushrooms, this burger is a step up from traditional frozen vegetarian patties. At around the same price point as FieldBurger, it's a solid choice for those looking for a more sustainable and healthier option.

Overall, while neither of these plant-based burgers is a perfect replica of traditional meat-based burgers, they both offer a unique and tasty alternative. Whether you're a seasoned vegan or just looking to mix things up, these burgers are definitely worth trying.
