Taita Taveta Leaders Protest Sacking of Kenya Ferry Chair Dan Mwazo

Leaders in Taita Taveta County have expressed outrage over the sacking of Kenya Ferry Services chair Dan Mwazo following a tragic incident in which a mother and her daughter were swept away by a ferry in Likoni, Kenya.

On October 17, President Uhuru Kenyatta recalled the entire board of Kenya Ferry Services, including Dan Mwazo and other members, citing the tragic incident as the reason for the move.

However, leaders in Taita Taveta County have protested the sacking, saying it was unfair and unjustified. They have called on President Kenyatta to reconsider the decision and allow the people of Taita Taveta to take up the positions of the sacked officials.

Speaking on October 20, during a Mashujaa Day celebration, Taita Taveta County leaders, led by Deputy Governor Majala Mlagui and former MP Calistus Mwatela, expressed their outrage over the sacking of Dan Mwazo.

"The President should remember the people of Taita Taveta in government positions, especially after Dan Mwazo and Rosina Mruttu left," Deputy Governor Majala Mlagui said on Twitter.

Former MP Calistus Mwatela also expressed his outrage over the sacking, saying it was unfair and unjustified. "Mwazo was only in office for two months and was sacked because he is from the Coast region. Where is justice and equality?" he asked.

The tragic incident occurred on September 29, when a ferry, MV Harambee, capsized in Likoni, killing a mother and her daughter. The incident sparked widespread outrage and calls for action to be taken against those responsible.

President Kenyatta's decision to recall the board of Kenya Ferry Services was seen as a move to address the concerns of the public and to ensure that those responsible for the tragedy are held accountable.
