Netflix, the top American content streaming service, has announced plans to curb password sharing among its users.

According to a report by Newsweek, published on October 22, 2019, Netflix Chief Product Officer Greg Peter stated that the company is exploring ways to limit password sharing in the platform's Q3 2019.

Currently, Netflix's terms and conditions allow for personal and non-commercial use of the service, but prohibit sharing with individuals beyond the household.

Users can currently share an account by setting up different viewing profiles using one login, but this may soon change.

Netflix has indicated that it will monitor user activity and may suspend accounts found to be used by people living outside the account owner's household.

The streaming service charges $8.99 monthly for the basic package, allowing streaming on one screen, while a $12.99 package allows streaming on two screens and a $15.99 package allows streaming on four screens.

A survey conducted by Magid, a research firm, found that close to 14 million Netflix users out of 137 million subscribers do not pay for the service, resulting in the streaming service making about $135 million from just 10% of its customers.
