Crime has been on the rise in Kahawa Wendani estate in Nairobi, with residents expressing concern over the increasing number of robberies committed by boda boda operators.
According to residents, the spate of muggings started two weeks ago, with several incidents reported in the area.
Mr. Jairus Kipkorir, a resident of the area, witnessed a boda boda operator snatching a phone from a woman last weekend. 'They did it so fast and before the woman could do anything they had already disappeared,' Kipkorir told Nairobi News on October 22, 2019.
Another resident, Ishmael Makau, narrated how two men on a motorbike snatched a handbag from a woman just a few meters from the Kahawa bus terminus last week. 'Some people saw the incident attempted to give chase but the thugs somehow managed to escape,' he said.
Residents of Lucky Summer have also raised concerns over a gang that is unleashing terror on them at night. On Sunday night, a woman was accosted, attacked, and robbed by two men as members of the public watched in dismay. 'The number of touts famously known as Makanga is high in this estate. Something should be done about it,' the woman, Tabitha Karungu, said.
