On October 22, 2019, a tragic incident occurred in Kamatungu Village, Tharaka South sub-county, where a man was killed by his friend over termites.

According to police reports, Daniel Mutiria, a welder at Marimanti Market, stabbed his friend Muritihi Kiogere after a dispute over the collected termites.

The two friends had been drinking together, including on Mashujaa Day, but their friendship turned violent when Mutiria demanded the termites.

After a fistfight, Mutiria fetched a knife from his house and stabbed Kiogere four times on the chest and stomach, resulting in his immediate death.

Realizing the public's anger, Mutiria surrendered himself to the police officers at Marimanti Police Station.

Tharaka South Police Commander, Mr. Kiprop Ruto, stated that officers visited the scene and moved the body to Chuka County Referral Hospital mortuary.

The suspect, Daniel Mutiria, has been locked up and is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday.
