On Tuesday morning, a police officer attached to Ogembo police station was found dead in his rented house within Ogembo town, Kisii County.

According to Kisii County Police Commander Martin Kibet, the officer had been on duty until 3pm on Monday and had complained of chest pains before going home.

When the officer failed to report to work on Tuesday morning, his colleagues became suspicious and tried to reach him on phone, but were unable to contact him.

After sending an officer to his residence, the body was found on the bed, locked from the inside, with some painkillers nearby, suggesting that the deceased may have purchased them to ease the chest pains.

The body has since been moved to the morgue pending an autopsy.
