On October 22, 2019, Kenyatta University issued back to school dates after a week-long closure due to student unrest.
The university's administration had been under pressure to address the situation, which began when students were forced to use a nearby footbridge to cross the busy Thika Road.
According to the university's statement, students pursuing engineering, health sciences, and architecture were expected back on Monday, October 21, with classes starting the following day.
Those pursuing agriculture, security, environmental, economics, creative and performing arts, media studies, hospitality and tourism courses were to return on Tuesday, October 22, with classes starting the next day.
Lastly, students pursuing pure and applied sciences, Education, Humanity, and Social sciences were expected in the school on Wednesday, October 23, with classes starting the following day.
The university also issued strict back to school rules, including a Sh500 fee to cater for damages and a requirement for all students to register for their respective courses by October 31.
