On October 22, 2019, former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Chief Executive (CEO) Robert Muthomi was cleared of any wrongdoing by FKF's Disciplinary Committee in a case where he was accused of office abuse.

However, Muthomi has now threatened to launch a legal onslaught on Kenyan Premier League (KPL) club Sofapaka president Elly Kalekwa for allegedly tarnishing his name.

According to Muthomi, he will use all avenues to clear his name, stating, 'I have asked my lawyers to look into it. I reserve my rights to the action and this (taking legal action) could go further in helping me clear my name.'

The controversy surrounding Muthomi began when a letter he authored, carrying the official FKF stamp and dated July 12, was leaked online. The letter addressed to the Egyptian embassy in Nairobi asked that Sofapaka ace John Avire be granted a visa to travel to Cairo to watch the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as a fan.

The letter sparked suspicion that Muthomi was using his influence to facilitate Avire's transfer, who had only notified Sofapaka that he was terminating his contract over a three-month unpaid salary arrears.

Despite being cleared by FKF's Disciplinary Committee, Muthomi has confirmed that he does not want his job back.
