On October 18, 2019, Eliud Kipchoge, the world marathon record holder, became the first human to run a full marathon under two hours. Just a week later, he was taking a different kind of step - one towards the courts.
Through his lawyer, Donald Kipkorir, Kipchoge demanded that NRG Radio issue an unqualified apology, remove his name and images from their social media accounts, and respond to his representatives within two hours. Failure to comply would result in a lawsuit for breach of image rights.
Kipchoge, a 2016 Olympic marathon champion and 2003 world 5000m gold medalist, is not one to be trifled with. His reputation and image are valuable assets, and he will not hesitate to protect them.
