On Sunday, Nairobi's major roads will be closed to accommodate the Standard Chartered Marathon, according to Nairobi Traffic Police Commander Joshua Omukata.

The roads set to be affected include Uhuru Highway, Kenyatta Avenue, Harambee Avenue, Bunyala Road, Lusaka Road, Haile Selassie Avenue, and Waiyaki Way.

Organizers of the event confirmed during a media briefing that the roads will be cordoned off at 11pm on Saturday and again at 4am on Sunday.

Commander Omukata stated, "Traffic on Uhuru Highway will be interrupted from 11pm on October 26, 2019, which is a day before the StanChart Marathon."

He advised those planning to travel to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Sunday to make arrangements in advance, taking into account the road closures to avoid any inconvenience.

The marathon is an annual event organized by the Standard Chartered Bank and its partner organizations.

Commander Omukata further stated that the roads will be reopened at 2pm on Sunday, but this may be subject to change depending on the completion of the races.
