On October 22, 2019, Peter Karanja, the second suspect charged with the murder of tycoon Tob Cohen, appeared in court for his bail application.
His lawyer argued that Karanja is not known to any of the witnesses and therefore cannot interfere with witnesses.
The suspect is seeking bail of anything below Ksh 1 million, citing that he may not be able to raise high amounts for bond.
Karanja also argued that he has been in police custody for over 30 days and if released on bail, he is willing and able to abide by any terms and conditions set by the court.
However, the prosecution is opposed to the bail application, citing compelling reasons to have Karanja detained further.
It is worth noting that Sarah Wairimu Kamotho, the main suspect and Cohen's widow, was previously freed on Sh2 million cash bail.
