Troubled Governor Waititu Kicked Out of VIP Podium During Mashujaa Day Celebrations ¶
Published on October 22, 2019
Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, famously known as Baba Yao, was kicked out of the VIP podium during the Mashujaa Day celebrations held at Mama Ngina Waterfront Park in Mombasa county.
According to sources, Waititu had arrived at the venue early and occupied one of the seats meant for Mombasa Woman Representative Asha Hussein. However, a contingent of event organisers approached him and had a friendly chat.
Minutes later, the county boss was seen picking up a call and walking out of the podium before proceeding to talk to some security officers who were loitering around.
The event organisers disclosed that they had been directed to ensure no leader battling court cases or under investigation occupies a seat at the VIP podium. This order was given to the organising team by State House, with the president keen on avoiding leaders facing court cases or under active investigations.
Waititu's woes stem from a graft case he is facing, which has led to him being denied access to his office pending the conclusion of the corruption case.
It was not the first time the county boss was denied access to the VIP podium, as he was also kept in check during a recent launch of phase two of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) train services in Suswa.
