This archive report was first published on 22 October 2019.

Published on October 22, 2019, records show that the State holds only 40 percent shares in Telkom Kenya, while Helios Investment Partners holds the remaining 60 percent.

This ownership structure implies that Telkom Kenya is not subject to the State Corporations Act, making it exempt from probes by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) as requested by Parliament.

Despite the merger hopes, the Communications Authority (CA) has yet to receive the necessary clearance from EACC, with the CA controller stating, “CA is yet to receive EACC clearance to progress the merger,” on Friday last week.
