On October 22, 2019, a fire erupted on the roof of the SkyCity convention centre site in Auckland, New Zealand, shortly after 1:10pm (0010 GMT).

Fire and Emergency NZ reported that the fire quickly spread, prompting office workers to stay inside and turn off air conditioning as a thick pall of smoke engulfed the city centre.

Although there were no reported injuries, unconfirmed reports suggested that the fire may have been started by a construction worker using a blowtorch on the building, which is one of the venues for the 2021 APEC summit.
